Success Story

Editor's note -- Wherein Chicago Sun-Times movie critic Roger Ebert finds the process of evolution compelling.
On this dot of space and in this instant of time, the human mind is a great success story, and I am fortunate to possess one. No, even that's not true, because a goldfish isn't unfortunate to lack one. It's just that knowing what I know, I would rather be a human than a goldfish.

  1. It would be interesting to know what goldfish actually do think. I used to keep them. They're some of the dirtiest fish--they poop a lot.

  2. They are self-polluting little critters, aren't they?

  3. Goldfish live forever as long as you take good care of them. They grow forever too if they have a big enough bowl. Those are the only two success stories I know concerning goldfish.

BTW, the cheese, bolgna, and mustard sandwich is more upbeat with a little sweet relish spread on the sans mustard bread slice. Slices of hard boiled egg make it up town.

  5. And what is wrong with being a goldfish. I think we men have a lot in common with goldfish. We drift around all day thinking of sex, see some food at the side, wander off to eat then forget what we were doing in the first place and so return to thinking about sex again. It's a good life innit?

  6. Hello C.J.,

I wouldn't know, myself not being a man.

I do like Pepperidge Farm Goldfish® crackers, though. Do they sell that brand in London?

  7. I had noticed that! Your not being a man I mean.

Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers? never heard of them but yes, you could get them from Harrods.

  8. I bought black, woolly gloves without fingertips from Harrods once. I loved them because they made me look like Eliza Doolittle.
