Spelled wrong!

Editor's note --  Etymology Man, who can reconstruct proto-languages in a single lexicostatistic, and who, disguised as R.L.G.JOHNSON, a mild-mannered correspondent for a mediocre newspaper, is no help when fighting a never-ending battle with hordes of giant Praying Mantises.

Not Man Ray

Editor's note -- Roger "I dunno" Ebert didn't know this is a picture of a guy holding a headless action figure while standing next to a bizarrely-dressed mannequin.
It's not easy to recognize Salvadore Dali because his mustache is normal-looking.

Editor's note -- The guy holding the action figure is Salvatore Dali. The Editor assumes that Man Ray took the picture because they were friends and did weird things together.

Honky Tonk Woman

Editor's note -- In which Roger Ebert is unaware this is a picture of Mick Jagger in drag.

Editor's note -- Maybe, Roger. It all depends on who you think it is.

Shooters

Editor's note -- If an Iowa City nerd doesn't know what to do on Bourbon Street on a Friday night, then it isn't a good idea to let everyone know.

Editor's note -- As I've said, try oysters raw at Acme. Or if you just want crappy food, go to Pat O'Briens and have a Hurricane instead.

I didn't know, honest. Anyhow, aren't oysters aphrodisiacal? And aren't there enough kids in this lousy world? Why risk it?

Unfortunate event.

Editor's note --  While Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times claims this photo was taken today, the Editor seriously doubts it. Her shoes and anklets are circa 1951.

Imagine that

Editor's note -- At the Flipped Again blog, Weirsdo, of Stuffed Animal Tales prefers Aubrey Beardsley's LYSISTRATA in its entirety to the more subdued version below.

A sorry state

Editor's note -- Florida State University asks if Jim Morrison's parents will be sufficiently interested in the rock legend's future.

Old and Rusty

Editor's note --  al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri criticized road and bridges in the United States on Thursday, according to The Onion.

Ayman al-Zawahiri criticizing U.S. bridges

"We want to turn your bridges into rubble, but if we claimed credit for making them collapse, nobody would ever believe us.

"We'd really just be doing you a favor because then you'd actually have to rebuild them," al-Zawahiri added.

Anniversary Aves

Editor's note -- Raven Smith at AnOther Magazine loved Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds Barbie Doll about a week ago.  Barbie is portraying Tippie Hedren portraying Melanie Daniels being attacked by black birds that are either crows or ravens.
ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S “THE BIRDS” THEMED BARBIE DOLL

Editor's note -- Mattel, Inc. made the The Birds Barbie Doll for the 45th anniversary of The Birds in 2008.  Below is a picture of what she looks like in the box. Amazon sells The Birds Barbie Doll for $99.42 $99.99...

The Editor is not sure why Raven Smith at AnOther Magazine all of a sudden loved Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds Barbie Doll a week ago, but wishes the doll a Happy 48th Anniversary anyway!!

The day after

Editor's note -- Once again, Paul Krugman is wrong. And somewhat delusional. Perhaps he had too many libations at Fourth of July celebratory festivities.

"I realized that a Yiddish song
performed by three Greek sisters
is what America is all about,"
Krugman slurred.

(Your video is a nice slice of Americana. I'll give you that much.)

Freedom from Like

Editor's note -- In defiance of the Wall Street Journal, the Editor has indeed tweeted its article. They should be pleased to learn, however, that it was not well-liked enough to merit a  "like" on the Editor's Facebook page.

No. Bullshit.

Editor's note -- Apparently, The Holy Roman Empire asked the village of Castrillo de Murcia to think up the dumbest idea it could as an alternative to baptism on June 26, 1620.

A man dressed up as the devil jumps over babies lying on a mattress in the street during 'El Colacho', the 'baby jumping festival' on June 26, in the village of Castrillo de Murcia, near Burgos, Spain.  Baby jumping is a traditional Spanish practice dating back to 1620 that takes place annually to celebrate the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi.

During the act - known as El Salto del Colacho (the devil's jump) or simply "El Colacho" men dressed as the Devil (known as the Colacho) jump the babies to take the evil from those born the last twelve months of the year as they lie on mattresses in the street.
